S3, for instance, offers a full-blown API (REST mostly) to which anyone may read and write -Slideshare being one of my favourites. The same is true for the other services. Now, whether the existence of that API warrants the difference in price is another matter; probably not.
Perhaps I missed the point here; it would not be the first time! If so, I apologise.

As for cloud being not green, I've never seen that stated, and anyone who does has entirely failed to understand the concept. Using mass virtualisation, centralised data centres and providing resources on-demand is very 'green' indeed - a vastly more efficient way of doing things.

@powellm Yes, that is the point I’ve been making all along; ‘Cloud’ (or utility computing as it should be called at present) is just what we dedicated / managed hosts have been doing for years, but on shorter timescales.

As for cloud being not green, I’ve never seen that stated, and anyone who does has entirely failed to understand the concept. Also it has been stated could computing is not very green.

For what your going to pay for a cloud computer solution now you could go get a dedicated server with Server Intellect that offers better support and will allow your sites to grow. Too much generalisation out there around 'new kid on the block' service providers whose proposition revolves around a few specific scenarios. As you say, the less dynamic scenarios (which are one or two orders of magnitude more common) have been serviced by more established hosters for years in a highly optimised manner. I know the RackSpace guys just shrug in a "that don't impress me much" kinda way when looking at some of the things that are emerging at the moment and the way some pundits are raving about them. Sounds like you guys come from the same mould :-)

Well said.
