@Gary - consider yourself followed. ;) Will have a look at your blog later!
We are actually looking for a new supplier of electric bikes; the urban mover ones have proven to be very unreliable in our experience (numerous breakdowns both mechanical and electrical). While I appreciate that it is new-tech, I want to try out some other providers to see if the problems are with electric bikes as a whole or just that brand.
Suggestions welcome!

@james you forgot to mention the Web site!

@Gary – consider yourself followed. <img

It really speaks to the every day person who could be looking for a better way to get some exercise. Also like what one of your readers mentioned about the hub wheel made by the German company.
I believe as the market grows for electric bikes we'll see consideral improvement in the designs, weight, and overall transportability of theses wonderful machines.
Please...keep writing. Oh, I'd appreciate your views on my attempt at writing for the beginner Ebiker at www.velorep/velochef. I'll still working on developing content. Finally, find me on twitter @velochef

Thanks for the excellent article. They have a large range that you can try before you buy in Cambridge, Oxford and North London. They pick the best models on the market and hand out a lot of free advice! The website is a great resource. Recommended.

Came across these guys who independently sell all manner of electric bikes and scooters. So there, you may have helped me to help the environment!
Best wishes, Helen Robson.

Kate, I thought I’d tell you that I was about sell my mountain bike as I’m a bit creaky in the legs these days, when I came across your picture in a link from another site and it’s inspired me to look into getting an electric bike which would be great for the short distance errands I now use the car for. Now you've got used to it the 2 miles probably doesn't need any assistance. Going uphill on a bike is all in the mind, cycological as it were. Next time you're in a bike shop compare the weight of different machines. At £900 it could be extremely light, everything should be nice. The battery and motor on an electric bike will weigh more than a complete racer.

Well done for using two wheels

Now you’ve got used to it the 2 miles probably doesn’t need any assistance. Don't forget that good old-fashioned motorbikes are a lot more enviro-friendly than a car as well though, not to mention a lot more fun! ;)
PS. If you want to get boosted Google ranks from putting links into relevant blog post replies you should make it a proper link (info in LiveJournal's help about doing that :)

Using cars is just about the worth thing most of us do as far as carbon emissions go, so scooters are definitely a way forwards.

Don’t forget that good old-fashioned motorbikes are a lot more enviro-friendly than a car as well though, not to mention a lot more fun! http://www.katescomment.com/wordpress/?p=30#comment-49

Having bought several electric bikes that made all kinds of promises about whizzing about, they all were basically very poor, heavy, sluggish etc etc.So I started researching electric bike tests and soon came up with the brilliant HEINZMANN system.I bought a good quality 28ins wheel lite weight bike with 24 gears from my local bike shop £300 and then ordered my Heinzmann system from the supplier in Glasgow. The kit arrived after 3 weeks complete with new wheel fitted with the motor hub.The rest of the system, rear rack, controller, nicam battery, twist grip were fitted in 3 hours and was off for my first ride.Incredible system, flat speed err 25mph,oops officer,15 legally, incredible torque up the local Welsh Hills at Colwyn Bay, good range of about 15 miles assisted (forget the promises of 30 plus miles the ads tell you) unless you're a super fit 6 stone athlete. Recharge 3 hours. The twist grip allows you to feed the power in or out so you choose the assistance level.
How much, well, not cheap, the kit was £850,bike £300 but I can only advise,if you can afford it ,go for this system,it makes all the cheap ones look Dismal in performance. There is also a 35 mph motor you can order, watch out for Mr Plod !!
Anyway search HEINZMANN, Ben at Kinetics, Glasgow, best electric system in the world.

The kit arrived after 3 weeks complete with new wheel fitted with the motor hub.The rest of the system, rear rack, controller, nicam battery, twist grip were fitted in 3 hours and was off for my first ride.Incredible system, flat speed err 25mph,oops officer,15 legally, incredible torque up the local Welsh Hills at Colwyn Bay, good range of about 15 miles assisted (forget the promises of 30 plus miles the ads tell you) unless you’re a super fit 6 stone athlete. I really like the idea of zipping through the London traffic with the smug assurance that your not paying the London congestion charge nor contributing to the smog.
Perfect for a lazy slob like me

They look cool as well.
